A catholic father blessing the car
As part of efforts to reduce unemployment among the youth, Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu in the Central Region, Alex Markin, over the weekend, distributed 20 new cars to some unemployed youth to be used in taxi business.
He also donated boxes of liquid fertilizers to some vegetable growers in the area and purchased a tractor for the farmers to pay GH¢40 instead of GH¢70 when they hire it weed an acre of land.
Each vehicle cost GH¢38,000, but beneficiaries were made to pay an amount of GH¢5,000 as deposit, with the remaining spread over two years.
At a short ceremony to present the cars to the beneficiaries, Mr Markin stressed the need for the people not to see the cars as gifts but do well to pay to enable others to benefit from the package.
Mr Markin called for total unity in the area to promote effective development.
He expressed concern about how premix committee members in the area have been cheating the fishermen in the distribution of the premix fuel.
Mr Markin therefore warned them to stop the act since he would ensure that they are prosecuted when arrested.
The Winneba MTTU Commander, DSP John Paul, commended the MP for such a bold initiative, adding that somebody would have built a mansion with the money instead of helping others.
Mr Paul advised the drivers to respect the rules and regulations governing the work and respect the police as well, and not see them as their enemies.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman, Theophilus Kojo Halm stated that the MP aimed at empowering the youth since he could not always give out money to them.
