Akufo-Addo Reacts To “Yet Another Lie”

AKUFO-ADDO REACTS TO FALSE REPUBLIC PUBLICATION – YET ANOTHER LIE

Yet again, the office of Nana Akufo-Addo has been compelled to react to a publication in the Republic newspaper, one of the many pro-NDC papers dedicated to publishing falsehoods about Nana Akufo-Addo.

The story in the paper with headline “NPP gurus hot over ‘Le Baron’ cocaine saga”, and which has been reproduced subsequently on Ghanaweb and Peacefmonline, tries desperately to create a linkage between the owner of Le Baron, a hotel in East Legon, Accra, who has been arrested in the United Kingdom for allegedly engaging in drug trafficking and money laundering, and Nana Akufo-Addo.

The story claims that one Mr. David Kwadwo Anim, owner of Le Baron, is a friend and major financier of Nana Akufo-Addo, who went to the extent of donating US$2 million to the campaign of the 2012 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party.

For the avoidance of doubt, these statements by the Republic are nothing but lies and deliberate fabrications designed in a desperate attempt to tarnish, once again, the image of Nana Akufo-Addo. Mr. David Anim is not a friend of Nana Akufo-Addo. Indeed, Nana Akufo-Addo does not recollect ever having met him. The alleged donation of US$2 million to the campaign of Nana Akufo-Addo, as reported by the paper, is also a big lie.

In addition, Nana Akufo-Addo has never been arrested at Heathrow Airport or any other airport anywhere in the world. Once again, this is a wicked lie to sour the reputation of a man whose life has been a matter of public knowledge. Not surprisingly, no details of the alleged arrest are provided by the paper, other than the bald allegation.

We urge Ghanaians to disregard these stories, which have proven over the years to be deliberate ploys by pro-NDC papers to try to tarnish and damage the reputation of Nana Akufo-Addo. We insist that the Republic newspaper, Ghanaweb and Peacefmonline withdraw these allegations and apologise for them.

We, however, wish to state that this will be the very last time that the office of Nana Akufo-Addo will be responding to falsehoods and deliberate acts of defamation against his person by these pro-NDC newspapers through the use of this medium. The next response to such defamatory publications will be to seek redress at the National Media Commission and the courts of law. It is obvious that these wicked and evil lies against Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP are intended to divert the attention of the Ghanaian people from the widespread corruption and bad governance of the NDC that is imposing intolerable hardships on Ghanaians. These crude ploys will fail. Ghanaians can see through them.
