Roger Federer happy to return to form in French Open first round

World number four Federer crushed his Slovakian opponent on the opening day of the grand slam tournament at Rolland Garros, easing to a 6-2 6-4 6-2 victory.

The 17-time grand slam champion had succumbed to an early exit at Internazionali BNL d’Italia earlier this month, which marked his first appearance since wife Mirka gave birth to a second set of twins.

However, the Swiss returned to form in Paris, and was quick to voice his delight at progressing to the second round.

“I was happy seeing, getting early signs out of the match that I was actually playing well and I was going to get my chances I was looking for,” he said.

“My personal life, as we know, it’s all great, so I’m happy the family is here.

“I wasn’t nervous actually going into the match. It’s more just like those hints of fear, maybe yesterday, maybe this morning at one point, just for like five seconds, ‘Oh, I really hope I don’t have to pack my bags today,’ that kind of feeling.”
