The Black Stars continue to be the biggest side attraction in the country as demonstrated by a massive turnout of fans and dignitaries on all three into their training ahead of departure to Holland enroute to Brazil 2014.
Coach Appiah has been supervising his World Cup squad through intense workouts at the Accra Sports Stadium since Tuesday morning afternoon and the fans have refused to be left out even though the Black Stars are expected to thrill all on Friday afternoon when they take on a local select side in a farewell match at the same venue.
‘It’s fantastic to come and watch our superstars training, it’s an amazing feeling. I will come here to watch them everyday if they will train for the next two months. I will not miss the match on Friday when I know they will give us more entertainment,’ Kwadwo Asare who had come all the way from Dansoman.
For young Razak Ali who stays in Fadama but currently plays for Achimota based Division Two League side, Golden Boys, he loves the Ghana captain so much he has nicknamed himself Junior Asamoah Gyan. Dressed just like Gyan amid spotting the same hairstyle and number 3 Ghana jersey, Ali told Allsports.com.gh he had just come to watch his hero.
‘I am a football player like him and I like the way he plays his football so I want to be like him. He is a striker who kills himself for the nation and I want to achieve all he has achieved and become the captain of Ghana as soon as possible,’ Razak Ali AKA Junior Asamoah Gyan said.
The fans certainly idolize the national team players and even when their training session is over, these supporters gathered all over the car parks to catch glimpses of their heroes even as the tight security presence meant they got nowhere within range of the players.
‘They are our own brothers, it’s not everyone who can get the privilege of playing for the national team so they must allow us to get close to them and talk to them. Some of us want to just take photos with them,’ Wisdom Quarshie from Madina told us.
‘Please here is our banner, we have formed a fan club for the Ayew brothers and qwe have been supporting them so much. Today we want to get an opportunity to tell them that they are heroes but the Police are not allowing us,’ an angry man holding a banner proclaiming ‘The Ayews Fun Club – Jordan and Dede we love you.’
The fans’ idolization of the Black Stars players is one that is very revered and on Friday afternoon, they will get the chance to see their heroes in action for the last time before they depart the shores of this country on the voyage to Brazil 2014.
All roads lead to the Accra Sports Stadium for the football farewell fiesta between the Black Stars and the Dream Team.
