Appreciating fans: Waris dedicates farewell match to supporters

Abdul Majeed Waris cannot wait to displays his skills in front of Black Stars fans at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon.

The national team round up their non-residential camping on the homeland before emplaning for Holland enroute to the 2014 FIFA World Cup with a farewell game against a locally assembled side codenamed Dream Team.

Waris who scored some of the most important goals to help Ghana’s qualification bid says he’s looking forward to the big game which he says is necessary to show appreciation to the fans whose continued support he rates very important.

‘It’s an important game and I will be delighted to play in front of our own fans in such friendly atmosphere,’ Waris told Allsports.com.gh .

‘It’s an opportunity to show how we appreciate the fans and their support. We are going there (World Cup) not as individuals but as a nation so we need the prayers and support of everyone,’ Waris added.

The Black Stars preparing for the Brazil 2014 will for the first time get spiritual backing of their countrymen in the ceremonial farewell match.

Tickets have been selling since yesterday as fans scramble to gain entry into the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday afternoon. VVIP tickets are selling for GH¢30, VIP for GH¢20, Lower VIP is GH¢15, Osu Stand is GH¢10 and popular stand GH¢5.

Black Stars coach, Kwesi Appiah also underlined the significance of the welfare match to the Black Stars ahead of the World Cup.

‘It’s very important, we need to showcase our players to Ghanaians. This is the time for Ghanaians to offer their prayers and get behind the team and we’ll make sure all the players invited will play in the match,’ Coach Appiah said.
