The Allianz Park outfit face the defending champions at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium this weekend hoping to avenge their semi-final defeat in last year’s competition.
But Hill is confident Mark McCall’s men can get the better of Toulon if they go into the game with the same mindset as in their 46-6 last-four victory over Clermont Auvergne at Twickenham last month.
Asked how his former club could overcome the French giants, Hill told Perform: “If Saracens can make sure that Toulon don’t get the juggernaut going.
“Saracens have got to go onto the pitch with exactly the same philosophy and exactly the same gameplan as what they did against Clermont.
“Defensively, the tackles went in extremely low, line speed was good, which meant that Clermont never got moving – they didn’t get their big runners with the backs or forwards into the game.
“As a consequence, they never got any momentum going and Saracens took their opportunities extremely well in the first half.
“An element of fortune on their side, but ultimately the way their defence then backed it up again meant that Clermont’s resolve just disappeared.
“It became a formality long before the final whistle.”
The fixture also sees fly-halves Owen Farrell and Jonny Wilkinson – playing his penultimate match before retirement – lock horns once again, with the duo having accounted for every point in last year’s semi-final, which Toulon won 24-12.
“There is the opportunity for both to feel that they’ve come away from the game and played the best they can,” added Hill.
“From a neutral perspective, you have to hope that happens.
“As with any final, you hope that it’s won because of something that someone’s done that is outstandingly positive.
“You never like to think that someone’s left with that haunting feeling of ‘it was my fault’.”
