No case: Appeals Committee throw out Ashgold appeal

By Prince Dornu-Leiku
Kumasi Asante Kotoko have been cleared to go ahead with their MTN FA Cup semi final tie against city rivals, King Faisal following rejection of appeal against the ruling giving Kotoko a walkover by Ashantigold who failed to turn up for the clash in Accra on April 13.

Ashantigold had sought to have the earlier Disciplinary Committee ruling overturned citing their inability to travel to Accra for the match originally billed for the Kumasi Sports Stadium but shifted to Accra due to a home ban placed on Kotoko.

‘The Appeals Committee carefully studied the submissions of the parties and the record of appeal and is of the view that the appeal lacks merit,’ the Appeals Committee verdict noted.

‘We find the decision by the DC as aptly supported by evidence on record and the Statutes and Regulations of the Ghana Football Association. Accordingly, the appeal is dismissed,’ it added.

The Appeal Committee further cautioned the GFA to thread carefully when dealing with a parallel situation in future.

‘It’s recommended that should a similar situation arise in future, the GFA should endeavour to engage the away team, particularly with regard to financial outlays and logistical concerns to be build consensus before deciding on the venue,’ it advised.

The stage has therefore been set for the big game in Kumasi on Sunday to see which of Kotoko or Faisal earn through to face sensational Inter Allies in the grand finale a week later at the Accra Sports Stadium.
