Newly promoted Premier League club Great Olympics have confirmed talks over a proposal to sell off shares to Ghanaian media and public relations firm Optimum Media Prime (OMP).

The Wonder club will be making a return to the Ghanaian top flight next season following their successful campaign in the Middle League playoffs.

Olympics is however challenged with scarce resources despite their heavy popularity in the country.

OMP thus look to boost the club’s finances by reportedly taking over the club ahead of the new campaign.

Great Olympics director Fred Pappoe has confirmed talks with OMP but says the discussions which are only at a preliminary stage are not about a total takeover.

‘Yes, there are discussions going on but I must be quick to point out that it is not a takeover,’ he told Power FM.

‘The discussions are totally at the preliminary stage. What is happening is that, we received a request from Mr Fadi Fatal and his brother Talal in their individual capacities to buy shares in Olympics and then to provide other forms of sponsorship for the club.

‘It is very preliminary. We’ve had just one meeting after the proposals were brought in.

‘We’ve not gone anywhere at all to even decide on the percentage of shares they are going to get even though they’ve put figures on the table.’

OMP have previously bought shares in Ghanaian clubs.

They were involved in such transactions with Kade Hotspurs, Zaytuna FC and Sporting Mirren.

It is unclear whether they have retained their stakes in these clubs which will see them ineligible to acquire any stake in Great Olympics as it will go against the Ghana FA Statutes.
