Four Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) have received a total amount of GH¢73,249 from the Ghanaman Community Reinvestment Grant Trust Fund (Ghanaman CRG Trust Fund) to undertake various community projects.
The organizations, Single Mothers Association, Afaataba Multi-Purpose Cooperative Society, both in the Upper-East Region, the Ve Gbodome Youth Association in the Volta region and Corban Foundation, Tema, signed the agreement with the trustees of the Fund in a short ceremony in Accra.
They would use the funds to support local rice production, expansion of shea butter oil extraction, completion of a toilet facility, as well as start-up capital for the graduates of a vocational school.
Sylvester Zigah, Vice-Chairman of Ghanaman CRG Trust Fund, speaking on behalf of the Trustees after the grant signing ceremony, said the Trust Fund has supported numerous projects to improve the lives of people in deprived communities.
He said the beneficiaries should appropriately use the funds approved for their respective projects so the right people will benefit.
‘From time to time, we will come over and visit to see the progress of your projects,’ he said.
He also urged them to cooperate with the fund manager since proper monitoring and evaluation procedures have been laid down by the Trust to ensure accountability and sustainability of the projects.
The representatives of the organizations also expressed appreciation to the Trustees for their vision and help in making their proposals a reality.
They also pledged to work according to the terms of the agreement so other organizations can also benefit.
GlobalStandard Consulting, the Administrator for the Trust, encouraged the beneficiaries to relay information to other community-based NGOs since the application for the grants are accepted throughout the year.
The Ghanaman CRG Trust Fund was established with support from the United States African Development Foundation (USADF) in 2009.
Since its inception, the Trust has disbursed a total amount of GH¢317, 302.10 to 19 community-based projects.
The key focus areas of the Trust include health, education, vocational skills training and income generating activities for women and other marginalized groups.
