2014 World Cup: Ghana FA chief Nyantakyi happy with underdogs tag

Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi is delighted that all the expectations are on their opponents ahead of the 2014 World in Brazil.

The Africans will play against old foes USA and Germany as well as Portugal in group G.

The Black Stars have managed two wins over the USA and suffered only a 1-0 defeat to Germany during the last edition of the tournament in South Africa four years ago.

However, the Ghanaians are accustomed to being less favoured and Nyantakyi says it puts them in the right frame of mind to deal with the big occasion.

‘We are usually underdogs, so we are better in this position. It seems that we have to be underdogs to put our mind in perfect line and this is one of those times,’ he said.

‘That kind of adversity is where we are more comfortable. It is like it wakes in the players a lot of mental toughness.

‘In 2006 and 2010 not many people gave us any chance but we all saw our performances.

‘This year as well, we are not being counted among the favourites and to be honest with you I’m really happy with the underdog tag.’

The Black Stars started preparations in Accra on Tuesday and will fly out to Holland this weekend ahead of their international friendly against the Netherlands on May 31.
