NHL: Rampant Rangers take hold of Eastern Conference finals

The Rangers swept the first two games at Montreal’s Bell Centre, scoring 10 goals in the process, and are heading home to Madison Square Garden after a comfortable 3-1 win in game two on Monday.

Max Pacioretty had put the Canadiens on the right path early, when he opened the scoring in the seventh minute but their lead would last all of 17 seconds.

Ryan McDonagh equalised for the Rangers, before Rick Nash also struck for the visitors before the first period was out.

Martin St Louis’ second-period powerplay goal put the Rangers two goals up, and that would be enough for the visitors in Canada.

Derek Stepan finished with two assists for the winners, while Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves.

The Rangers host games three and four on Thursday and Sunday respectively, and two victories would wrap up the Eastern Conference title with three games to spare.
