NHL: Chicago Blackhawks brush past Los Angeles Kings, take series lead

The reigning Stanley Cup champions scored once in each period at their United Center home to open the Western Conference finals series as winners.

Brandon Saad, Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews struck and Corey Crawford made 25 saves for the Blackhawks.

Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick made 17 saves.
Chicago host game two of the series between the past two Stanley Cup champions on Wednesday.

Saad gave the hosts the lead on Sunday when he directed a Nick Leddy shot past Quick during a power play in the first period.

Toews had a goal disallowed in the second period and the Kings were level soon after when Tyler Toffoli scored.

Keith restored the Blackhawks’ lead in the 12th minute of the period when his shot deflected off Trevor Lewis’ stick and past Quick.

Toews completed the scoring on the counter-attack, finishing a three-on-one move as the Blackhawks made the perfect start to the series.
