Hundreds of members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) together with the Concerned Teachers Association of Ghana have staged a massive demonstration in Kumasi, Tuesday, in protest over poor conditions of service.
According to Luv FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor, the teachers marched across the principal streets of Kumasi wearing red arm bands, chanting and demanding government’s immediate response to their grievances.
The teachers are demanding among other things, incremental allowances which they claim have been in arrears for nearly two years.
NAGRAT President, Angel Karbonu who presented a petition to the regional minister, also demanded a quick fix to their Tier Two pension contributions.
He expressed regrets over government’s decision to defer their grievances to the tripartite committee for solution.
He said the committee does not have timelines within which to resolve their challenges and that is a great source of worry, especially for the teachers who will be going on pension in the next few months.
“Any further delays would have dire consequences on the affected teachers,” he indicated.
The Regional Minister Samuel Sarpong, who received the petition said government is aware of their grievances.
He called on the aggrieved teachers to be patient as government attempt to resolve their grievances.
