He made this known on Thursday in Accra in a pre-opening speech for the Spintex Road branch of the bank located opposite the GOIL filling station.

Some of these initiatives, Mr Edgal said included the injection of new capital, the commencement of an intense training programme to upgrade the skills of staff, the introduction of a robust payments and collections platform, and the broadening of the bank’s product offerings through the addition of retail consumer banking products such as cards, internet banking and savings accounts.

‘Today, First Atlantic Bank is offering a bouquet of five different savings products aimed at providing our customers with savings options.  Additionally, the bank has introduced its e-banking product portfolio made of Internet Banking, Mobile Banking, e -Statement and Alerts, Local Prepaid card as well as Visa Prepaid cards.

Additionally, he said First Atlantic Bank has similarly started competing on trade finance business.

‘Indeed at First Atlantic Bank, we have set broad objectives to create an institution that competes effectively in the local and sub-regional financial market place. The bank is poised to champion the re-creation of the consumer finance market, leading a private/public sector partnership in supporting the acceleration of the country’s economic development.’

‘We will equally position the bank as a conduit for investment flows into Ghana while leading in the development of agency banking and the use of electronic and other alternative channels to promote financial inclusion. Facilitating international trade and promoting trade within and between African countries will also feature strongly on our agenda.

‘We want to build First Atlantic Bank to become the go-to bank in Ghana with a product for everybody while benchmarking global service quality.’

First Atlantic Bank commenced operations in November 1995 but focused principally on merchant banking.

As a merchant bank, First Atlantic was very instrumental in the growth of many companies in Ghana in addition to being a key collaborator with the Government of Ghana in EDIF, BAF, Japanese Grant disbursements, which were all geared towards funding SMEs.

With the receipt of a universal banking license and a change in corporate identity a little over a year ago, the bank commenced the process of taking off the old garb of a merchant bank and replacing it with a new focus to deliver universal banking to our cherished customers.
