First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has embarked on a seven (7) District medical outreach programme to donate medical supplies and equipment to the District Hospitals in the Northern region. She also donated an Ambulance to the Bole District Hospital.
Medical Supplies
The beneficiary hospitals are Baptist Medical Center at Nalerigu in the East Mamprusi District, Walewale Hospital in the West Mamprusi District and the Savelugu Hospital in the Savelugu/Nanton Municipality, Tolon/Kumbungu District Hospital and Yagaba Kubori District Health Centre.
The items donated included, hospital beds, mattresses, and catheters, drip stands, breathing circuits, syringes, and walking aids.
Mrs Mahama, who presented the items to the hospitals on Wednesday, gave the assurance that “The Lordina Foundation will work in co-operation with other organizations to support initiatives that will especially assist the underprivileged in accessing quality healthcare.”
She said “I fully understand how important health is to the development and well-being of the people, and what a well-functioning hospital means for people,” hence the donation.
She expressed the hope that other organizations, especially corporate bodies, would take up the challenge and contribute to the health needs of the people to help build a better society.
She commended the people of the region for their great contributions towards enhancing the socio-economic development of the country.
Gambaga Witch Camp
Mrs Mahama later visited the witches’ camp at Gambaga and interacted with the inmates, and donated 30 bags of rice, quantities of cups, washing basins, hundred pieces of clothes amongst others, for their upkeep.
She inspected work on the Skills Training Centre being constructed by the Lordina Foundation at Gambaga, to empower the vulnerable and women with economic skills to become self-employed.
She paid courtesy calls on the Nayiri Mahami Sheriga, Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, and the Yoo Naa Mahama Abukari the seventh, Chief of Savelugu.
Donation to Orphanages
The First Lady also visited the Nyohini Children’s Home and the Anfaani Orphanage in Tamale, and interacted with the children, during which she donated food items, including bags of rice, sugar, tins milo, biscuits, and toiletries, for the upkeep of the child.
Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Northern Regional Minister said the donation by Mrs Mahama demonstrated her commitment towards improving health, especially maternal healthcare, in the country.
Dr Jacob Mahama, Deputy Northern Regional Director of Health Services in-charge of Public Health, received the items on behalf of the beneficiary hospitals and handed them over to heads of the hospitals.
Dr Mahama gave the assurance that the items would be put to judicious use to improve healthcare delivery for patients.
The Lordina Foundation is a development oriented non-governmental organization founded by Mrs Mahama to help implement her numerous initiatives aimed at improving the status of all, especially the vulnerable in society.
