Police Take Over Abura Dunkwa

TENSION IS gradually mounting at Abura Dunkwa, a farming community in the Aburaasebu- Kwamankese (AAK) District of the Central Region, as the whole community has virtually turned into a ghost town due to the presence of heavily- armed security personnel in the area.

DAILY GUIDE learnt that the security personnel were dispatched to the town by the Regional Police Commander, DCOP Ransford Moses Ninson, creating fear and panic among the people – as if there was mayhem in the town.

DAILY GUIDE spotted some elderly people at the lorry park running into their various homes immediately they saw about three police armoured vehicles patrolling the town, while farmers, upon seeing the police officers, went back to their farms.

The situation compelled many people to make all kinds of negative utterances about the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.

Investigation conducted by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the police officers were dispatched to the area due to reports that a group of assembly members had vowed to pass a vote of no confidence against the District Chief Executive (DCE) Mr. Atta Mends, at the assembly sitting.

The paper gathered that the DCE, who had allegedly caused the transfer of the District Police Commander of the area, had no other option than to call the Regional Police Commander to send the police personnel to the area without the consent of the outgoing District Police Commander.

DAILY GUIDE can state on authority that during the meeting which was held behind closed doors, one of the assembly members moved a motion that the members should pass a vote of no confidence against Mr. Mends since he had not performed well after his appointment as the President’s representative of the area.

Attempts by this reporter to speak to Mr. Mends proved futile as he refused to pick the calls.

When contacted, the outgoing District Police Commander, DSP Twum Berimah, said he could not comment on the issue since his outfit was not informed about the heavy security presence in the area.
