Forfeit Your Salary—Mahama Told

PRESIDENT JOHN Dramani Mahama has been told to sacrifice his huge monthly salary to prove to Ghanaians that indeed, he is a patriotic citizen.

Mr. Ayisi Boateng, founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), said in the face of the current economic mess, the least the president could do for Ghana was for him to sacrifice his salary.

According to him, Ghana’s economy is known to everybody as being sick, adding that the president should set a good example for others to follow.

The NPP founding member also charged President Mahama to reduce the size of his government in the wake of the economic problems facing the country.

“The size of the government is too large for a weaker economy like Ghana,” he lamented on Kessben FM in Kumasi.

Mr. Boateng said it doesn’t make sense for a small country like Ghana to waste its scanty resources on a large number of ministers.

The NPP guru said he saw 68 Land Cruisers in the convoy of President Mahama when the Head of State toured the Ashanti Region recently.

Mr. Boateng noted that the amount of fuel that was wasted during the president’s three-day tour was unimaginable.

Ghana, he said, is not a serious country, wondering why the government should deliberately waste national resources and turn round to call for a national economic forum.

He likened the ongoing national economic forum at Akosombo to a death warrant or a Kangaroo court.

He praised the NPP leadership for refusing to take part in the forum, indicating that “it is not necessary.”
