Weija Dam Shut Down


MANAGEMENT OF Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has announced that there would be interruption in water supply to the western and central parts of Accra from Friday, 16 May to Saturday, 17May, 2014.

This is as a result of a planned shutdown of the Weija Treatment plant, the company has stated.

The planned shutdown, which will last from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, is to allow GWCL to install a valve on the Weija transmission line at Heavy Wood, Odorkor in Accra. Subsequently, the installation of the valve would enable GWCL to isolate and repair a faulty pipeline at Kokroko near Awoshie Junction.

During the period of the shutdown, water supply will be interrupted in areas such as Kasoa, CP, Nyanyaano, Amanfro, Obom Road, Weija, Tetegu, McCarthy Hill, SCC, Tuba, Brigade, Bortianor, Mallam, Gbawe, Odorkor, Awoshie, Sowutuom, Israel, Achimota, Ofankor, Galilea, Abeka, Lapaz, Tesano, Darkuman, Bubuashie, Kaneshie, Awudome, Industrial Area, Mataheko and Abossey Okai.

Other areas to be affected include Dansoman, Laterbiokorshie, Chorkor, Mamprobi, Korle-Bu, James Town, Okaishie, Adabraka, Asylum Down, Circle, Kokomlemle, Accra New Town, Alajo, Abelemkpe, Kotobaabi, Pig Farm, Maamobi, Nima, Kanda, 37, Ridge, Ministries, Osu, La, Cantonments and surrounding areas.

Management of GWCL appealed to customers in the affected areas to store enough water for the shutdown period.
