Two suspected armed robbers arrested in Ashanti Region


Two suspected armed robbers have been arrested by the police in separate robbery attempts in the Ashanti Region.

One of the two, Jeff Appiah, 18, together with his accomplice, who is at large, is alleged to have robbed a pastor and raped the daughter at gunpoint at Dompoase -Kuwait.

The other robber, Peter Aminga, is in the grips of the law for being part of a gang of armed robbers who terrorised and robbed residents of Hill Top area of Ohwimasi Kwadan.

The two who appeared before a Kumasi High Court were granted bail of GHc 10,000 without surety and are to reappear before the court on May 30, 2014.

Briefing the media in Kumasi yesterday, Chief Superintendent Peter Baba said on May 5, 2014, around 2 a.m,, two men, including Appiah, armed with locally made pistols attacked a pastor and his family at Dompoase –Kuwait in Kumasi.

He said Appiah and his accomplice took away three cellular phones and GH¢70, raped the pastor’s daughter at gunpoint and bolted.

Intelligence gathered later led to the arrest of Appiah at his hideout at Atonsu-Kuwait, also in Kumasi.

Regarding Aminga, he was arrested at his hideout on May 7, 2014 at Abuakwa-Koforidua in Kumasi.

According to Mr Baba, Aminga was a member of a group of armed robbers who had been operating at the Hill Top residential Area of Ohwimasi Kwadan and took part in a robbery on March 29, 2014.

A search conducted in Aminga’s room revealed a black leather jacket which he wore during the robbery, an automated teller machine card, dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, two knives, two live ammunitions and two hand gloves.
