The Executive Director of the Ghana National Service Scheme, Alhaji Alhassan Imoro, has inspected the cultivation of maize for the major season on the Scheme’s agricultural project site at Ejura in the Ashanti Region.

This year’s project covers 450 acres out of which 400-acre land has already been cultivated with the remaining 50 acres to be completed. The maize has geminated and is currently doing well with the favourable weather conditions.

Addressing national service persons and volunteers who are working on the farm, Alhaji Imoro commended them for their commitment to the project and urged them to seize the opportunity of their engagement on the farm to acquire practical agricultural knowledge to practicalise the theories they had learnt at school.

The Executive Director further said the Scheme was at various stages of discussion with its stakeholders to assist in entrepreneurship skills development programmes for national service persons. He therefore reiterated his call on the educated Ghanaian youth to take advantage of the various entrepreneurial opportunities being created for skills development towards self-employment.

The Ashanti Regional Director of the Scheme, Mr. Kwesi Quainoo, who conducted the Executive Director and his entourage round the farm, said 50 acres of the farm had been reserved for national service persons to settle them down after their service.

He said that was the Regional Secretariat’s maiden arrangement for service persons to own farms in line with the Executive Director’s announcement to that effect early this year. He therefore commended the Executive Director for offering the service persons this opportunity.

The persons and the volunteers working on the farm expressed gratitude to management of the Scheme for the attention being offered them since they began their national service in September last year.
