Two ex-employees sue BNI for wrongful dismissal

Two former employees of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) have instituted court action against their former employer for wrongful dismissal.

A third person has also initiated an action in court over claims to a land adjoining the Kumasi office of the BNI.

A senior lawyer with the BNI, Mr Charles Nii Adama Akrong, made this known when he appeared before the Judgement Debt Commission yesterday to provide it with information on their intentions to sue the BNI. The three actions

According to Mr Akrong, Philip Ahiakpa and Godwin Komla, both former employees of the BNI, had instituted the court action after they had been dismissed by the institution.

The third case, he said, concerned a land that adjoins the Kumasi office of the BNI, which, according to the BNI, belonged to the state.

But just as the BNI attempted to develop the land, it received a court service initiated by one Nana Abankwah claiming ownership of the same land.

Mr Akrong told the commission that the case was in court, and  as such, he would not elaborate. RANA Motors

In another development, the Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Vincent Adzato-Ntem, told the commission that RANA Motors had instituted a court action against the ministry for non-payment for three vehicles it purchased from the company.

He said RANA Motors succeeded in obtaining a judgement for the payment of GH¢330,760.40.

In addition, the court ordered for the three vehicles to be impounded and auctioned to defray the judgement debt.

Following the court’s decision, he said, the Attorney-General’s Department went to court and stayed the execution of the judgement while they appealed the case.

The vehicles are currently parked at the premises of the Accra Fast Track High Court.

Narrating events that led to the court action, Mr Adzato-Ntem told the commission that in 2011, a World Bank project, the Centre for Urban Transport, was initiated at the ministry.

He said through restricted tendering, RANA Motors supplied the ministry with three KIA Sorento four-wheel vehicles but the ministry failed to pay on time.

As a result, RANA Motors went to court and obtained a judgement in the sum of GH¢330,760.40
