Fishermen to search for victim of chopper crash


Fishermen along the western coast are to be provided with equipment to help in the search for the missing person and the wreckage of the helicopter that crashed last Thursday off Cape Three Points in the Western Region.

The Director of Air Traffic Service of the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority, Mr Albert Taylor, told the Ghana News Agency that equipment had also been procured for seven vessels involved in the search to be co-ordinated by the Ghana Navy and the Ghana National Petroleum Company.

He said the tail-boom and the nose of the helicopter had been recovered in the first search operation .

Mr Taylor said data and voice recorder, essential elements in air travel, had been found and would help in investigation into  the cause of the crash.

Last Thursday an Ivorian registered helicopter, TUHAA contracted by Luk Oil Company to send supplies to its rig crashed, resulting in the death of three of the eight passengers on board. One person is still missing.

Four out of the eight persons onboard survived the crash.
