2014 World Cup: Kevin Boateng and Michael Essien to miss Ghana’s early preparations

Ghana duo Kevin-Prince Boateng and Michael Essien will be the only absentees for the Black Stars’ farewell game against a local select side, coach Kwesi Appia has confirmed.

Boateng who plays for German club Schalke has asked to be excused from the game to be played at the Accra Sports Stadium on May 23 rd in order to make a doctor’s appointment.

The former AC Milan star wants to complete a stringent medical routine before joining the Black Stars’ preparations for the 2014 World Cup.

Michael Essien on the hand wants to attend to issues of his complete relocation from London.

The ex Chelsea star’s family reside in the UK despite joining AC Milan in January.

Both players have been granted permission to absent themselves from Ghana’s early preparations for June’s tournament in Brazil

“Kevin Prince Boateng has got permission to absent himself in order to honour a doctor’s appointment,” coach Appiah told Peace FM.

“He has a medical regime he must maintain to ensure he is 100 percent fit for the World Cup.

“Michael Essien as well has to go back to the UK to see to his family and issue of relocation.

“His family remain in the UK despite leaving Chelsea and therefore he has asked to be excused to see to all these issue before joining the Black Stars camp.”

The Black Stars will travel to Rotterdam after the farewell match.

Ghana will play the Netherlands in an international friendly on May 31.
