Two arrested over death of family of seven in Sogakope


Two persons have been arrested in connection with the mysterious death of a family of seven in their home at Sogakope in the Volta Region.

They are Mensah Egbenye, alias Bessa, a 50-year-old farmer, and Kofi Adukpo,  alias Alpha, a 28-year-old driver.

A fulani family was killed together with their animals. 

  Suspects goes into hiding 
According to the Director General of the Criminal  Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, Deputy Commissioner of Police ( DCOP ) Mr Prosper Agblor, the suspects were arrested on May 8, 2014, from their hideout at Sogakope. 

The seven family members comprising two adults and five children had gone missing for three days, from Friday, April 4, 2014.

Animals belonging to the family were also found dead in the compound, while the family members were being looked for.

A search party led by the Assembly member of the area, Mr Kofi Senyo, found the bodies of the family in a decomposing state at about 3:30pm on Monday April 7, 2014.

The team, which arrived in the house that had all its doors locked, found the bodies in one of the rooms. Since the doors were locked, the search team had to break through one of the windows before the bodies were retrieved. 

The CID headquarters took over the case from the Adidome Police and mounted a search for the perpetrators when the story broke.
