The planning officer of the Lower Manya-Krobo Municipal Assembly, Andrews Yanky, has been arrested by officers from the Akuse District Police Headquarters for allegedly assaulting a National Service person, Victoria Sena Bensah.
Sources close to the police told DAILY GUIDE that the victim worked with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), while suspect Yanky worked with the Municipal Assembly as the planning officer.
Andrews Yanky, according to sources, pounced on the lady without any provocation last week Wednesday, leaving her with a swollen arm and bodily pains.
The two lived in a rented house at Nuaso; and
according to Victoria Sena Bensah, the suspect had the key to the main gate of the house and so whenever he (Andrews Yanky) was not around, she was unable to gain access into the house.
She told this paper that on Wednesday, May 7, 2014, she had to stay at the gate till almost 9:00 pm when Yanky came to open the gate.
She said she politely asked him why he constantly kept her waiting till it was so late, but she claimed she was insulted by Yanky, who pounced on her and started beating her.
Bensah intimated that the action continued the next day at work as people from other offices came out to watch the planning officer hurling all sorts of unprintable words on the service person, accusing her of beating him; and asked the NCCE district director to write to the National Service Director about her purported insubordination.
The case was reported to the Nuaso police where medical form was issued to Bensah to go to the hospital.
The suspect was invited by the police but refused to honour the invitation until the Akuse police was ordered to intervene.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Andrews Yanky, who is believed to be in his early forties, was whisked away by the Akuse police
and sent to the Nuaso police station where he was detained and later granted bail Friday evening.
He will soon be put before court to answer charges of assault after investigation into the matter is completed.
A visit to the regional service secretariat to find out from the director what remedies are available for abused service persons yielded nothing because he (director) was not available.
