A multi-purpose Community Center, which is being constructed at Ash Town in the Manhyia South Constituency, has been hijacked by intruders who are transacting their business at the facility.

The facility, which is a brainchild of the former Member of Parliament (MP) for Manhyia, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, boasts of a library, computer room, offices, restaurant and assembly hall.

Since Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh aka ‘Napo,’ the current Manhyia South MP assumed office, he has used his share of the MPs Common and HIPC Funds to finance the project.

A staggering amount of GH¢250,000 is needed to ensure the completion of the facility to serve its intended purpose.

Napo, at a press conference on Monday, said while he was struggling to raise funds to complete the project, other people had taken control of the facility by transacting their business there without his knowledge.

The Manhyia South MP said users of the facility had been paying monies to some people without his knowledge.

Napo stated that he would soon engage the services of an audit firm to check all monies that have accrued from the facility over the years so that the monies could be used to maintain the community center.

The legislator accused a committee which was formed to manage the community of failing to discharge their duties effectively, indicating that he would reform the operations of the committee to ensure proper management of the project.

The Manhyia South MP stated that since the facility belongs to the community, every resident should have equal access to the facility ‘but they must follow the laid down procedures.’

Napo insisted that those occupying the facility illegally would be expelled.

He flatly denied reports that the facility had been closed to the public.

‘The facility is not fully completed but parts of it that are completed are opened to the public, but you must apply to the committee managing it before you can use it.’
