NPP Boycotting National Economic Forum Because They’ve No Ideas To Offer – Twum Boafo

The Executive Secretary of Ghana Free Zones Board (GFZB), Kwadwo Twum Boafo has said that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lacks common ideas to help the incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) to solve Ghana’s ailing economy.

According to him, the idea of the state to organize a forum for all to digest and resolve the country’s ailing economy is brilliant.

Adding that, the NPP’s attempt to proscribe the event is unreasonable.

As part of the John Mahama administration’s austerity measures to fix the nation’s ailing economy, government has set Tuesday May 13, 2014 for the first ever National Economic Forum.

The event according to state officials is intended at building an all-inclusive proposal to accelerate the nation’s economic growth.

Political parties, Civil Society and other interested institutions have been invited to partake in the event but the opposition NPP has hinted at a possible boycott of the event.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Kwadwo Twum Boafo opined that “why is the NPP complaining, they are the same people saying the President said ‘Yen Tie Obiaa’ [we will not listen to anyone]. So if the President is calling on all to resolve the economy, why the setback?”

“The fact of the matter is they [NPP] have no ideas because they have a record on that. During their governance, they did nothing for this nation. When I listen to this people [NPP] I am sicken to my stomach. They have a problem and their problem is they are unelectable…they are doing everything possible to bring this government down,” he added.

The maiden National Economic Forum which is scheduled to take place in Akosombo is on the theme: “Changing the Narrative; Building a National Consensus for Economic and Social Transformation”.

Participants at the event which will last for four days are expected to offer constructive ideas needed to transform the economy.

Vice President Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur was the first proponent of the National Economic Forum.
