The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has called on residents in the Accra Metropolis to observe this year’s ban on drumming and noise-making from today, May 12 to June 12, 2014.
In the interest of peace, harmony and national security, the AMA said “the usual form of worship should be confined to the premises of churches or mosques and noise levels be minimised to the barest limits possible.”
This was contained in a release signed by the Metro Coordinating Director, Mr Sam Ayeh-Datey, on behalf of the Metro Chief Executive, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije.
“The Christian community and the traditional authorities must show respect for one another and restrain their followers from making derogatory and inflammatory remarks about the beliefs and practices of one another,” the statement said.
The statement said the positioning of loud speakers outside the premises of churches and/ or mosques was banned, and cautioned roadside evangelists to cease their activities during the period.
“Apart from the task force which consists of AMA personnel, the Police Service and representatives of the traditional council, no other person or group of persons should be seen or found enforcing the abatement of noise in the metropolis,” it added.

“All are enjoined to abide by these guidelines for an incident-free Nmaa Dumo period,” the statement noted.
