Reverend Mrs. Rose Donkor, Executive Director for the All Nations International Development Agency (ANIDA), has appealed to society to pay particular attention to the education of women to ensure a positive global change.
She said women when educated, would discover their identity, their purpose and appropriate assignments in the society to bring about positive change.
Rev. Mrs. Donkor said this in a communiqué issued by ANIDA to congratulate women on Mother’s Day, she applauded women for their selfless contribution to society, she said women play an important role in society, hence there is the need to encourage and extend support to them to enable them bridge the disparities between women and men.
She said, “Every woman has the ability to excel but the socio-cultural challenges facing women in Africa makes it more difficult, it is therefore necessary to put all hands on deck to erase negative tendencies and practices that has the potential to derail the hopes and aspirations of women.”
“Women around the world are facing the dilemma of identity; many of them are struggling to discover who they are and where they stand today in the family, the community and the world”, she said.
To help women overcome these challenges, the Women’s Development Centre under ANIDA was founded ten (10) years ago by Dr. and Rev. Mrs. Samuel Donkor, co-founders of the All Nations Full Gospel Churches International and the All Nations University College, Koforidua.
Rev. Mrs. Donkor said, most societies were still undergoing transition regarding the state of women, adding that shifts in positions and roles have resulted in many women finding themselves in either uneasy co-operation or uncomfortable conflict with men.
Rev. Mrs. Donkor said that the question of women’s status and the issues of equal right for women were relevant to every culture and society on the globe.
“Women are unique in the sense that it was God’s idea for them to be women and to be positioned in the society for a purpose and for an assignment”, she said.
Rev. Rose Donkor stated that since the inception of the Women’s Development (WDC) 10 years ago, it has registered over 5000 women and offered training to about 1500 of them. She continued that, the Centre has graduated over 1000 women in various development programes offered by the WDC.
ANIDA will continue to execute more dynamic programmes that will change the story of women and Children in Ghana, Africa and the world at large, he promised.
