Chiefs in Akwatia have invited two ladies seen in leaked pornographic videos and images for questioning.
Various sexually explicit footages and pictures featuring some ladies in the diamond mining town have been circulating on social media networks.
Some residents have expressed concern about the situation.
Joy News has learnt that the sex videos went public after a misunderstanding between the ladies and the men involved.
Krontihene of Akwatia, Nana Baffour Afisah III tells Joy News’ Kwakye Afreh Nuamah that the action of the ladies have brought the town into disrepute and if found culpable, they could face sanctions.
They could be banished, prevented from participating in social activities like funerals, fined with sheep and schnapps among others, he explained.
The ladies have been asked to report on Sunday, the Krontihene of Akwatia said, adding, “we are waiting to see if they will come or not”.
Nana Baffour Afisah said they will find out from the ladies how the video came out, the idea behind it, why they consented to to act as well as the amount of money involved.
He is hoping through the ladies, his traditional court would be able to find out those behind the video recording.
He said the police have been invited to help investigate the issue.
“We will take information from them and there, we will take a stand,” he said.
Meanwhile, a private legal practitioner, Kwame Akuffo, has advised the ladies to take the summons serious.
He said even under the amended Chieftaincy Act, 2008, Act 759, chiefs still wield substantial powers and refusal to respond to a chief’s summons could amount to a criminal offence.
Mr. Akuffo noted that one could face summary conviction when found guilty of failing to respond to a chief’s summons, adding that an invitee can raise issues of jurisdiction, when he or she responds to the call.
“Obviously upon attendance at the chief’s palace, you can raise the issue of jurisdiction and speak of the fact that this matter is beyond the chief’s powers. You are not bound to take part in the hearing at the chief palace but you are duty-bound under the law to attend the call,” he explained.
