Ashanti NDC Defend President Mahama

The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed disgust at what it says is the desperate attempt at taking the shine off President John Dramani Mahama’s successful visit to the region.

It finds it mischievous that people would not talk about the numerous development projects he inspected and inaugurated, but rather pick only the advice to his party’s supporters to remain focus and refuse to be deterred by their opponents who would never appreciate anything good the government does and blow this out of proportion.

The NDC also poured scorn on the ethnic twist being given to the President’s remark to create the impression that he was out to hurt the feelings of Asantes.

These were contained in a statement read by Mr Raymond Tandoh, the Regional Secretary, at a press conference in Kumasi.

It said such diversionary ploy and tactics orchestrated by its opponents for purposes of political gain were doomed to fail, and that Ghanaians were too clever for that.

The party said it was important to note that President Mahama’s first port of call, when he visited the region, was the Manhyia Palace, to pay a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu.

This was a clear demonstration of the respect he has for Asanteman, and wondered how he could have gone out of his way to slight the Asantes, the statement added.
