Roll employees on NHIS – industrialist tells employers

Industrialist, Dr.Harrison Tetteh, is calling on employers, especially those in the private sector, to make healthcare accessible to their employees.

He is therefore calling on job owners to roll their employees onto the National Health Insurance scheme.

Dr.Tetteh, who is the Deputy Chief Executive officer of Joy Herbal industries, producers of Joy Daddy Bitters, Joy Ointment, Joy Twedie Mixture among others, said this when the company organized a health screening exercise for over two hundred staffs of the company as part of the workers day celebration at Akwadum-Suhum in the Eastern Region.

According to him the employers must make the health needs of those they hire an important agenda.

This he explained will encourage workers to strive towards achieving their set target which will eventually impact on productivity and boost economic growth.

He noted that “Ghana’s productivity output could rise than the normal figures we have been chalking” if the health-needs of workers are put high on the agenda of employers.

Workers were screened of diseases including hepatitis ‘B’, hypertension, body mass index, typhoid fever, malaria among others during the celebration last week.

A nursing official at the New-Abirem government hospital, Edmund Duodu who led the screening exercise expressed worry about obesity among Ghanaian employees.

He advised the public to desist from acts such as late eating, over eating and eating in between meals.

”The rate at which Ghanaians are becoming overweight is so rampant. We must check what we eat at what time and we should prevent eating in between meals”, the health official warned.
