Rehabilitation works on the first phase of the 18-kilometre Nyinahin-Kyekyewere road in the Atwima Mponua District in the Ashanti Region have been completed.
The completion of the project has brought back to the people of Nyinahin their main source of livelihood after 20 years of hiatus following the abandonment of the road works, thus worsening its state.
Farmers in the area have had their foodstuffs stuck in the bush for at least two decades, with few people daring to make it on foot each day to transport their produce to the market.
The second phase, which is bituminising the road, is yet to commence but the fact that it is now motorable is enough for the people.
Due to the fairly good road, the mining of bauxite has also picked up, and this has brought excitement to the people and the mining firms in the district.
And perhaps that is what the new District Chief Executive (DCE), Stephen Yeboah, would be remembered for in his sixth month in office.
Education
Already being touted for his good works, the 40-year-old DCE is pushing for more development projects, with key interest in education.
As part of his policy, a special fund has been set up to sponsor needy, brilliant students to any level. The best JHS student in the district will receive full scholarship to the SHS level while the best SHS student will be taken care of through to the tertiary level.
Key educational structures are vigorously being pursued to reduce the number of students who trek daily to Kumasi and other major towns.
With funds from the District Development Fund (DDF), a two-storey classroom block for the Nyinahin D/A Basic School, a modern dining hall complex and administration block are near completion.
At Adupri D/A Basic School, for instance, the assembly, with funds from the GETFund, is building a six-unit classroom block, an office for the staff and a computer laboratory.
The assembly is accelerating efforts to complete a girls dormitory for the Nyinahin Senior High School (SHS), with funds from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).
Also, a three-unit classroom block at Atwima Takoradi is at the lentil level.
Community Development
The DCE said the assembly had provided 1,500 bags of cement and 70 packets of roofing sheets to support community projects across the district.
The assembly is working closely with the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to rehabilitate houses destroyed by a recent rainstorm.
Refuse evacuation
Mr Yeboah indicated that the assembly was carting refuse from Sallam, Nyinahin D/A School and Nyinahin Zongo to a final disposal site at Adupri and Kyereyaso .
Unemployment
The assembly has secured a 10-acre land at Nyinahin to be used as an industrial site where a number of artisans would be trained to solve the unemployment problem in the area.
He said the TBEA Company Limited, a Chinese power supplying firm, had been contracted to connect about 200 communities in the district to the national electricity grid.
