Uneasy Calm At Yeji

PIECES OF information reaching  DAILY GUIDE  from Yeji in the Pru District of the Brong-Ahafo Region suggest that there is uneasy calm in the fishing community following the release of some 11 murder suspects from prison custody.

All 11 suspects facing trial at the Wenchi District Magistrate Court over their alleged involvement in the shooting incident at Yeji that led to the death of two persons and the injury of 31 others have been granted bail.

The deceased were Kofi Fofie, 32 and Kwadwo Jikibu, 45, who both resided at Kojo Bofour.

The 11 murder suspects now on bail are: Akwasi Manu alias Akwasi Ntrinu, 45; Atta Yaw, 35; Kojo Osei Gosuru alias Kojo Konto, 24; Kwaku Owusu, 48; Kwaku Tawiah alias Inusah, 34; Kofi Amoako, 37; Akwasi Danso, 42; Yaw Bruce, 43; Kwaku Amoako, 23; Gyapah Prince, 43 and Kwaku Aduana, 40.

The broad day shooting incident occurred on Saturday October 26, 2014 during the National Congress of the Nchumuru Youth Association held at Yeji at the time the Chief of Kojo Bofour, Nana Dr Agyare Bofour together with his entourage was heading towards the event grounds.

The suspects who were said to have been seen by the victims shot into the chief’s entourage and killed two instantly leaving over two dozen others wounded.

During the trial, nine were granted bail by the court. However, the remaining three believed to be directly involved in the shooting were incarcerated by the court.

The Magistrate Court at its sitting on April 7, 2014 remanded three of the remaining suspects into prison custody to reappear on May 5, 2014.

However, some powerful individuals from the area arranged to get a High Court Order in Sunyani to secure the bail of the remaining three suspects immediately after the Magistrate Court had remanded them.

Residents of Kojo Bofour hinted DAILY GUIDE that the suspects who stormed the area were teasing the Kojo Bofour people especially families of the deceased.

‘The young men in Kojo Bofour are worried and apprehensive and want to take arms to retaliate because they saw the suspects shooting their colleagues,’ said Nana Dr Agyare Bofour, chief of Kojo Bofour.

He described the release of the suspects as uncalled for, since it could be a recipe for vengeance.

Meanwhile, Nana Dr Agyare Bofour has pointed accusing fingers at the Yejihene, Pimampim Yaw Kagbrese V, for allegedly masterminding the release of the suspects.
