The Techiman accident involved the Greater Accra Deputy Women Organizer, Hajia Adiza Sali, who was buried in Accra on Sunday, April 27, in line with Islamic rite, and the Deputy Volta Regional Women Organizer, Agnes Tia, popularly known as Understanding.
The two, who were in the company of other party members died on the spot when their vehicle collided with a Yutong bus.
They were returning from the funeral of the sister of the first lady, Lordina Mahama.
The Tanyigbe accident occurred when about 25 NDC sympathizers were returning from the cemetery at Ho after burying the branch Chairman of Ziavi-Adukofe.
The engine of the Hyundai Mighty truck which was returning the mourners to the funeral grounds at Ziavi, went dead on reaching Tanyigbe as it was climbing a hill. The vehicle reportedly retreated and covered a distance of about 35 meters before falling over on the passenger side.
Three persons – Akorfa Adu, 46; Azuh Baby, 48 and Adiapa Richard, 43 – died on arrival at the hospital, while the rest sustained various degrees of injuries.
Book Of Condolence
A book of condolence has also been opened at the party’s regional office in Ho for the general public to come and express their condolences.
The Regional Secretary, Simon Amegashie-Viglo, told DAILY GUIDE that a delegation of the party visited members of the family of the late Agness Tia in Accra last Monday to commiserate with them.
They included the Regional Women Organizer, Mercy Kuada; the Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Kofi Portuphy and Kofi Adams; The NDC Regional Chairman, Kwesi Aboagye, ahead of an emergency functional executive committee meeting, told DAILY GUIDE that ‘we have lost a good human resource.’ He said Agness, who joined the executives four years ago, proved to be hard working with superb social interaction ability.
He described her as fair, firm and plain with excellent communication skills.
Mr. Aboagye also commiserated with the families of the three party sympathizers who lost their lives last Saturday.
First Lady At 37 Hospital
Mrs. Lordina Mahama on Wednesday visited one of the survivors of the accident, Vivian Ankrah, Greater Accra Regional Women Organiser and her driver, who are at the 37 Military Hospital.
The first lady drove from the Airport straight to the Military Hospital after arriving back to Accra from her sister’s funeral at Kintampo in the company of the National Deputy Women Organiser and some regional women executives of the NDC.
Madam Vivian, who was in good spirits on seeing the Mrs. Mahama at her bed side, assured her that she would get well earlier than anticipated.
Madam Vivian’s driver said he was responding well to treatment.
