Abuja May Day Bombing: 30 Killed – Eyewitness

Photo: Another blast rocks AbujaThe number of casualties of Thursday evening blast in Nyanya, Abuja, has reached 30, Punch refers to an eyewitness.

However, according to Premium Times, Nigerian police have confirmed the death of 12 people. 

Nineteen injured people are currently receiving treatment at the hospitals, said police spokesman Frank Mba.

Meanwhile the mentioned eyewitness said that 25 bodies were taken to the Maitama District Hospital, Asokoro, 4 corpses – to the National Hospital and 1 body was taken to an unidentified hospital in Nyanya, Punch reports.

The area of the blast was immediately condoned off.

National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) urged FCT residents to donate blood for the victims.

This explosion came less than 3 weeks after the dire bombing of the same area in Nyanya on the outskirts of the country capital, which left 75 people dead and hundreds injured. The yesterday’s attack is believed to be a suicide attack, launched by means of a bomb-laden car. No group has taken responsibility for this act.

One of the area locals named Lambert, narrated how he witnessed the tragedy:

“I went to the park, but the scene was alight with burning vehicles and there were corpses of people on the ground as well as dismembered bodies; there were body parts on the ground including hands, and heads. It was a gory sight and I had to leave the scene.”
