As Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark Workers’ Day, Thursday, May 1, the Ashanti regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is asking journalists to pressurize government to live up to its responsibility of improving the living standards of people in the country.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Listowell Yesu Bukarson, the association said “the GJA is optimistic that you will not rest on your oars but brave the storm to work harder by setting realistic national agenda geared towards making sure leaders are responsive to bettering the living standard of the ordinary Ghanaian.”
“The Ashanti Regional branch of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, wishes all journalists and media practitioners a happy workers’ day. The GJA also congratulates the media for its sacrifice and avowed contributions to the socio-economic development of this country even in the face of the recent economic down-turn”, the statement further noted.
The GJA was established in August 1949 and has grown over the years to become the umbrella organization representing Ghanaian journalists.
It currently has a membership of over a one thousand, comprising practicing journalists and those in journalism-related fields.
These include press officers and public relation officers, who are classified as affiliate members.
