Tema, April 29, GNA – The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Tuesday organised a workshop for exporters and importers to address matters of mutual concern on clearing processes and procedures at the ports.
The workshop which was attended by the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA), Freight Forwarders, Custom brokers (clearing agents) Shippers and other stakeholders also aimed at creating a platform to share information and educate importers and exporters on general Customs operations.
Mr John Vianng Kuudumnuru, Sector Commander of Customs Division of GRA,Tema, said GRA was focusing on customer care services and stakeholder engagement to enhance compliance and facilitate trade and clearance.
According to him, in November 2013 the Authority launched its Client Charter and on April 9th 2014, the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy Plan was also outdoored to guide and strengthen the customer care drive.
He said the principles and guidelines being pursued include inclusivity, partiality, objectivity, responsiveness, openness, trust, transparency and respect.
The Customs Chief said the GRA would work alongside the private sector with an energy that reflects the reality of the fast paced global community in which we all live today.
Mr Samson Asaki, President, Exporters and Importers Association of Ghana, said members of his group would continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to reduce the bottlenecks in the clearance system.
He accused the Presidential Taskforce of unnecessarily subjecting importers to delays and harassment.
Mr Asaki also alleged that some Custom officers extort money from importers at the Ports as well as on the Highways.
