Christian Council congratulates workers on May Day

The Christian Council of Ghana has congratulated Ghanaian workers on the occasion of the May Day Celebration for their enormous contributions to the development of the country.

“May Day is a moment where we celebrate and appreciate workers from all sectors of our economy for their commitment, patriotism and efforts in developing our nation. It also provides an opportunity for workers to air their views and challenges confronting them for redress,” the General Secretary of the Council, Rev. Dr Kwabena Opuni-Frimpong, said in a statement. Work ethics

The statement entreated workers and employers in general to develop innovative ways of promoting sound work ethics in the work place and expressed the conviction that the promotion of sound work ethics was one of the surest ways of enhancing productivity.

It urged employers to use the celebration to reflect the needs of their employees and take the necessary steps to improve their conditions of service to meet the current economic situation in the country.

It said as the country commemorated the day for workers, it was also important to celebrate indigenous entrepreneurs such as Dr Osei Kwame Despite of the Despite Group of Companies and Alhaj Mustapha Oti Boateng of Chocho Industries and Company Limited for their tremendous efforts in the provision of employment and support to the industrial growth of the country.

“We urge the government to provide the necessary incentives and support such as tax exemptions to cushion indigenous entrepreneurs to enable them to compete with foreign companies, create better job opportunities and also become viable in contributing to the growth of our economy,” the statement said. Economic challenges

It said in view of dealing with the challenges of the economy and the future, the statement urged the government, employers and the various workers unions to continue to work closely together towards “our common objective of better workers, better jobs and better conditions of service, so as to create a better life for Ghanaians”.

“It is our prayer that the good Lord will continue to strengthen, guide and bless every Ghanaian worker and cause them to offer their best for our country,” it indicated, and admonished every worker with Ecclesiastes 9:10 which reads “whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”
