Minister of Interior Abba Moro, Chief of Defence Staff Air Marshal Alex Badeh both vowed to throw all the forces into saving the 234 school girls abducted by Boko Haram.

It would be recalled that on Monday, April 14, the insurgents raided Chibok town in Borno State and kidnapped hundreds of female students from Girls’ Government Secondary School. Since then, major controversy has trailed the abduction, with thousands of Nigerians demanding that Government should rescue the girls immediately. The exact fate of the girls is still unknown.

Minister Moro spoke yesterday while being paid a visit from the United Kingdom delegation. He said the Nigerian Government is “worried” with the issue of terrorism in Nigeria which ultimately led to the mass abduction. He condoled with the parents of the missing girls, adding that the authorities understand what they have to go through. The Minister promised to focus all efforts on saving the girls. He added that the Government would not be distracted by insurgents’ activities but create adequate conditions to attract foreign investors to Nigeria.

Chief Badeh spoke while receiving board members of the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency in Abuja (NOSDRA). He described recent terrorist attacks as “pure madness,” as fighting in northern region “kills the future” there. He sympathized with the indigenes of Nigeria’s north.

Speaking on the girls’ abduction, he noted that the number does not really matter; what matters is that “peoples’ children have been kidnapped.” He explained that the military cannot just go and neutralize the terrorists, but assured they will eventually rescue the girls.
