Ghana FA chief Nyantakyi hails quality of Premier League as relegation battle gets intense

Ghana FA president Kwesi Nyantakyi has hailed the country’s top-flight league for this season as ‘the most intensely contested league’ with about 11 clubs fighting against relegation with three matches remaining.

The First Capital Plus Premier League has been extremely exciting this season with relegation candidates unclear wth three matches to the end of the season.

Clubs placed from the fifth position to the bottom are all candidates for relegation which has led to intense competition in the league.

Even second placed team Heart of Lions are fighting with third placed Hearts of Oak for places in the Champions League but Kotoko are on the verge of clinching the title.

Nyantakyi insists the competition in the battles against relegation and the number of teams involved shows that the league in Ghana is on the rise.

“This is the most intensely contested league and it has been very competitive and very tough. No candidate is very clear for relegation,” Nyantakyi said.

“Apart from Kotoko who are destined to win the league, the rest of the clubs from the 5th to the bottom could be relegated and that shows how competitive the league is.”

The arrival of continental broadcaster SuperSport has brought a new dimension to the league while the cash injection from First Capital Plus has taken the challenge to the next level.
