Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan is praying that his former English side Sunderland avoid relegation from the Premier League.
The Black Cats are in the fight to beat the drop as they are currently 17th in the 20-team top-flight English side.
They must win their final three matches of the season and hope Norwich, Fulham and Cardiff don’t do better than them to be able to avoid relegation.
Gyan was a star man for Sunderland when he played from them three seasons ago before switching to play in the United Arab Emirates.
The Al Ain top striker insists Sunderland are good enough to play in the top flight next season insisting it won’t be a nice feeling if they are relegated.
“I mean I can’t say that once I have left I don’t care about what happens to them. I do care because I still have a few friends there and if they are relegated, it will be very sad for me, ” Gyan said.
Gyan insists his sympathies for the Black Cats emanates from the fact that they helped his career when he was in England.
“They are my former bosses and they sold me to Al-Ain and if not for anything at all, they gave me this platform that I find myself now. I just don’t want my former Club to be relegated, that’s all”, he added.
Gyan has continued with his heroics in the UAE with excellent showing for the club since he joined them by being the top scorer in the past two seasons.
