Chief Imam and his guest during the visit

Chief Imam and his guest during the visit

The newly elected National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) went to the residence of Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu last Friday and left the place primed with wise admonitions about leadership from the highly revered Islamic cleric.

‘Be fair, protect the interest of the poor, be prayerful, be patient, avoid selectiveness and be protective of the peace Ghana is enjoying’ were the salient features of the admonitions the National Chief Imam gave his guest when he turned up at his New Fadama residence at the head of a delegation.

The National Chief Imam, whose Friday schedules are always tight, found time to host his guest who was making his first visit since the NPP National Delegates’ Conference ended in Tamale.

Let us all be thankful to Almighty God for the peace that He has bestowed upon us as a people by avoiding those things which would present us as a people who are ungrateful for the mercies He has given us.

The party Chairman was accompanied by Mr. Boniface Saddique, former Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry and MP for Salaga; Alhaji Maiga, former Chairman of the Nasara Club of the NPP and an elder of the party, among others.

Speaking during the visit in Hausa, Mr. Afoko told his host that he was at his residence to primarily share with him (Chief Imam) the joy of celebrating his (Imam’s) 91 st  birthday. ‘This visit is to share with you the joy of the commemoration of your 91 st milestone and to pray that Almighty God grant you more years so that we continue to tap from your wealth of wisdom and for your spiritual intervention for our dear Ghana,’ Mr. Afoko underscored.

Continuing, he said, ‘I had sought your prayers for our Tamale conference and by the grace of God, all went well following the admonitions you gave me and which I followed to the letter. I would lead a delegation of my executive officers to come and pay a courtesy call on you at a later date when we are done with the pending funeral in Tamale of the late R.I. Alhassan. We would seek when we come, your prayers to God so that we achieve what we have set out to do for our country.’

Mr. Afoko apologized to the Chief Imam for not coming to greet him immediately after the Tamale conference – something he attributed to the death of Mr. R.I. Alhassan, which incident informed his tarrying a while in Tamale so he could join in the burial of the late party elder.
