NPP Race: Akufo-Addo Denies Wet-Blanketing Apraku

The Office of former presidential Candidate, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has denied ever advising fellow flagbearer aspirant of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, to stop wasting his time and money on running for the presidency.

A publication by the Informer Newspaper on Friday April 25, 2014 said Akufo-Addo told Apraku to “stop wasting his time and resources, since his vision (of becoming Presidential Candidate) will never see the light of day.”

The story attributed the quote to an anonymous associate of Akufo-Addo. According to Akufo-Addo’s Office, the former flagbearer read the story with “total dismay”.

“Clearly, this story has the sole motive of trying to create disaffection between Nana Akufo-Addo and Dr Apraku, and potentially all other members of the NPP who would like to contest for the flagbearership position ahead of the 2016 elections,” Akufo-Addo’s Office said in a statement signed by Press Secretary Eugene Arhin.

It said: “The NPP has always stood for the principles of competition and choice, and Nana Addo has, and will always be a firm believer in these principles. He is not in the business of discouraging anyone from fulfilling a personal ambition, more so an ambition as important as becoming President of our dear nation.”
