Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan emerged the top scorer after the group stage of the Asian Champions League as Al Ain progressed as winners of Group C.

The Black Stars captain remained the leading scorer of the competition with seven goals from six games despite drawing blank in the UAE giants’ 1-1 draw with Al Ittihad on Tuesday.

Al Ain finished winners of Group C as the competition heads into the knockout round.

The draw for the final stages of the ACL will take place by the weekend as the Boss look to atone for their poor domestic form by progressing further in the continental championships.

Al Ain have endured a depressed season following the shock exit of coach Cosmin Olariou just at the start of the season.

The appointment of Jorge Fossati and Qique Flores did little to improve their woeful plight in the UAE top flight.

Now seventh in the Arabian Gulf League, the Dubai-based club hope to make their highest possible finish in the league while progressing further in the Champions League under new Croatian coach Zlatko Dalic.
