Ethiopia have beaten a massive retreat once more again to re-install Mariano Barreto as their new coach.
The ex Ghana coach signed a two-year contract on Tuesday to replace Sewnet Bishaw who was sacked in February.
Barreto was appointed last month only for his appointment to be revoked by the Ethiopian FA.
The EFA then proceeded to hold talks with another former Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic but these talks broke down over the demands being made by the Serbian coach.
The Ethiopian FA have now returned to theor original plan to appoint Mariano Barreto as the new coach of the Walya Antelopes.
The Portuguese trainer is tasked with qualifying the side to the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Barreto however aims to freshen up the aging Ethiopian squad during his reign.
“I know Ethiopian players have natural talent but most of the national team players are above the age of 26 and more so we have to look for the young boys if we want to qualify for tournaments, so we’ll work to improve and change this situation,” he said.
“In all the countries I have worked I have produced top players, so I hope when I leave Ethiopia I’ll see a top player on TV and he say I helped.”
Barreto was in charge of Ghana during the initial stages of its maiden World Cup qualification in 2006.
He however left the post to return to coach in his home country in Portugal with Maritimo.
