Stop the needless media showdown – Afoko cautions Akufo-Addo, Alan and co.

Chairman for the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko has ordered flagbearer-hopefuls on the party’s ticket to cease the media spectacle and join in efforts to reorganise it.

So far three leading party figures -twice defeated presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo; former Trade Ministers, Alan Kyerematen and Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku – have officially declared interest to contest the flagbearership slot later this year. Others said to be interested but are yet to make formal declaration include former Korle-Bu CEO, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng and former Information Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng.

Their supporters have been busily engaging each other on political platforms in the media.

But Mr. Afoko has described as “unnecessary”, the media showdown among the camps of the aspirants stressing that such energies ought to be put in building a formidable front to unseat the governing National Democratic Congress.

The newly inaugurated Chairman made the statement on Tuesday when he led the team of newly elected party officers to their maiden news briefing at the party headquarters.

He called on party supporters to join hands in the post-conference reorganisation of the party ahead of the 2016 general elections, instead of fighting each other.

Joy News’ Fred Smith reported from the NPP Headquarters that, none of the old executives showed up at the news conference.

All but one, [Kwabena Agyapong who was represented by his aide], of the new officers were present and indicated their preparedness to support the new administration to succeed.
