Heart of Lions chief Randy Abbey wants cautious approach as they chase Champions League slot

Majority shareholder of Heart of Lions Randy Abbey has warned the playing body and the technical team not to get carried away by the prospect of playing in next year’s CAF Champions League.

The Kpando-based side have been the surprise package this season as they lie second on the log sheet with four matches to the end of the season.

But they have Hearts of Oak breathing down their neck as both teams are tied on 41 points.

Last Saturday’s 4-1 drubbing at Ebusua Dwarfs seems to have undermined they quest playing in the continent’s flagship events.

Abbey, a former Ghana Football Association spokesperson, says the club is not obsessed about playing in the Champions League.

“We are in a good position and I am not even thinking about Africa for now not at all,” he told GHANASoccernet.com

“The league is still tight and we cannot afford to lose focus at this point all. Talks about us playing in the Champions League are not what we are interested in. We are just focused on taking each game as it comes.”

Lions will represent Ghana alongside the eventual league winners for the 2015 Champions League if the former hold on to second place.
