Premier League Board’s league extension proposal approved

The Premier League Board(PLB) has had their request of seeking an extension to the closing date of this season’s Premier League which goes beyond FIFA’s deadline of May 18, ahead of the World Cup has been granted by the Executive Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

The PLB in a proposal to the Executive Committee wanted to end this season’s league on May 25 instead of the approved FIFA deadline May 18 to give the players enough rest ahead of June’s tournament in Brazil.

Their request has been granted and spokesperson of the PLB Ackah Anthony explains what initially accounted for their request to have the deadline extended

“You realized that the FA Cup competition is been organized alongside the league and then because we have Medeama playing in Africa is like most often when the league is on they are away playing in Africa,” he told Joy sports

“From the look of things if we are not careful we will not be able to meet the May 18 deadline given by FIFA so in order to be on a saver side we sent a proposal to Executive committee to at least give us one more week which I’m happy to announce they accepted.”

After Wednesday’s round of matches in the Premier league, is left with 5 games to the end of the 2013/2014 league season. Story by Ghana/Myjoyonline/Benedict Owusu
