Bolgatanga, April 15, GNA, Dr Ephraim Avea Nsoh, Upper East Regional Minister, has stated that the development of a Strategic Plan for the Region would help rebrand and market its potentials to investors.
Speaking to media practitioners at a maiden meeting in Bolgatanga, the Minister disclosed that a new board of expertise had been reconstituted to work towards the development of the Strategic Plan for the region.
The Regional Minister who spearheaded a similar Strategic Plan for the Upper West Region when he was the Regional Minister, said plans were underway by his successor to implement the Plan for Upper West.
According to him, the Strategic Plan, when developed, would attract both local and foreign investors into the region to open up the region economically.
He pointed out that preparing a strategic development plan was crucial for any meaningful development, and cited the Seven-Year Strategic Development Plan of Dr Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory, which helped to bring a number of development projects into the country.
He said, the Plan, when fully developed, would highlight the potentials of the region, by capturing Tourism, Agriculture, Language and Culture, as well as contributions from the private sector to the development of the local economy.
In developing the Strategic Plan, the Minister stressed that all stakeholders would be brought on board, and mentioned the leadership of the GPRTU, market women, representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, and the Media.
Dr Nsoh disclosed that plans were further advanced by the Regional Coordinating Council to bring all financial institutions and NGOs together, to see how they could contribute to support development in the Region.
On empowerment of the Youth, the Regional Minister said under the Department for International Development (DFID), TechnoServe has been contracted to train the Youth in their areas of interest, and indicated that they would be supported with some capital to set up their own businesses after the training.
The Minister said operationalization of the substructures of the Municipal and District Assemblies will be strengthened to ensure that workers of decentralised institutions take their roles seriously, adding that he would put extra eye on Municipal and District Chief Executives to compel them to discharge their functions effectively.
They will be made to stay at post and work to deliver the goods, the Regional Minister emphasized.
